Bridge:

A Bridge is restoration that replaces a missing tooth or missing teeth by anchoring to adjacent teeth...In order to construct a bridge, the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth must be "prepared" (as in ground down). While this is considered a sacrifice of sound tooth structure in some instance, it is necessary to achieve the result. An alternative to a bridge which allows for the conservation of the adjacent teeth is a dental implant.
